Abstract

The zebrafish is the pre-eminent vertebrate model system for applying forward genetics to determine novel gene function. Through previous BBSRC funded projects, we have identified hundreds of novel mutations affecting CNS development. In this project, we will characterise many of these lines and select a subset that affect neuronal positioning and/or axon pathway formation. These lines will be subject to further in vivo phenotypic characterisation, mapping and cloning. These studies will provide a wealth of novel information on gene function during early brain development and will provide a valuable resource both for our own research groups and for the wider community.
