Abstract

The availability of genomics and proteomics technologies along with a bioinformatics strategy to support the analysis of genome- scale data is essential for an internationally competitive UK research environment. Over the past two years we have established core genomics and proteomics resources for the UK Drosophila community through IGF funding. We have used our infrastructure as a platform for initiating international collaborations to further develop the technologies we provide and also to begin the development of state-of-the-art bioinformatics resources. Continued funding of the centres during the transition to a full cost recovery operation will ensure continued access for UK Drosophila researchers to the services and resources we have implemented along with future developments in this rapidly evolving technology arena.
