Abstract

The project has 3 main goals: (i) to obtain and analyse data on DNA sequence variation within species and divergence between species for an entire chromosome of Saccharomyces paradoxus (ca. 315 kb and 150 genes), to test hypotheses for genome evolution, at the level of chromosomal architecture and also at the level of single nucleotide changes; (ii) to develop new software for sequence assembly and detection of polymorphisms and methods of analysis for such large datasets; and (iii) to perform functional analyses testing the consequences of divergence for the entire chromosome or its parts by transferring the entire chromosome or its parts across species and assaying growth and fertility.
