Abstract

Mutations in the TALE homeobox genes - BREVIPEDICELLUS (BP and BP2) affect shoot and inflorescence growth in Arabidopsis. We will dissect the role of a previously uncharacterised member, BP2, in meristem function and in shoot and inflorescence development. Double mutant analysis of bp and bp2 indicates synergism between their functions, this, and interactions of bp2 with loci important for meristem and primorida development will be analysed using double mutants, cell-type specific reporters and yeast two hybrid studies. An enhancer and suppressor mutagenesis screen of bp has identified new mutants that profoundly change inflorescence architecture, this class will also be integrated in the functional dissection of BP2. Finally, we will identify targets of BP2 by microarray analysis of bp2 and using plants expressing steroid inducible-BP2 fusions.
