Abstract

The proposed work would be part of, and complement, work of the international bovine genomics consortium. Specifically the project will 1) build high-resolution comparative maps of bovine, human and mouse genomes and 2) contribute to genome wide physical map of the bovine genome. The latter work will be carried out in collaboration with American colleagues, who will provide 3000 plus primers for expressed sequences (ESTs) that we will use to construct a high resolution Radiation Hybrid map. In parallel the primers will be used to identify BAC clones containing the ESTs. The RH mapping information will then be central to the assembly of contig of overlapping BAC clones. These results will be used by scientists in the UK, Europe and worldwide working in areas of functional genomics, gene identification, physiology and comparative genomics.
