Abstract

200 microarrays with probes for more than a thousand Arabidopsis membrane transporters (AMTs) have been produced in a collaboration of seven laboratories. The consortium uses the arrays to gather data on the expression of AMTs under varying nutritional conditions. To extract quantitative information from the complex data output we propose a bioinformatics project with the following aims: creation of an AMT expression database, identification of differentially expressed genes by statistical testing, functional clustering of coregulated genes and co-acting conditions, and identification of common regulatory elements. The expected results will greatly enhance our understanding of function and interaction of ion transporters in plant nutrition.
