Abstract

The 5 sequence of 330K chicken cDNAs has recently been obtained. These sequences have been sorted into a non redundant set (NRS) of 60K clusters, indicating a high rate of gene discovery. For 45 per cent of these clusters we have identified orthologues in other species. A size distribution for the NRS has been estimated together with the number of full length clones. We now wish to extend this project to provide full insert sequences for the NRS by 3 end sequencing of clones and primer walking. The resultant information will greatly enhance the existing resource, already accessed by a wide group of scientists and will form an essential tool for exon definition in any future attempt to sequence the chicken genome. (Joint with grant 17911).
