Abstract

The IGF Brassica consortium was assembled for long term exploitation of Brassica in the UK. At HRI we are currently constructing a contiguous physical map of the C genomes (representing UK Brassica vegetable crops and half of the oilseed rape crop), which is the essential first step in vision of resources and services to accelerate identification of gene function. These emerging contigs are providing the focus for exploitation of results from the related crucifer Arabidopsis. One work package requires DNA fingerprinting analysis of 56,000 BAC clones representing the C genome. The computer analysis of the fingerprints is labour intensive, and it has become apparent that additional staff effort is required in order to deliver the contig information to the expanding database. Current throughput indicates that we expect a shortfall on delivery fingerprinting of C genome and therefore request additional staff input to grant 12446.
