Abstract

Ribonucleases are key factors in the control of mRNA degradation, which is an important, but poorly understood aspect of gene regulation. We have shown that mutations in a gene encoding a 5'-3' exoribonuclease has specific effects on Drosophila embryonic development and that disruption of the expression of the homologous gene in C. elegans by RNA interference results in embryonic development arrest. We will use both genetic and post-genomic approaches to analyse the function of this ribonuclease during development. The specific targets of this ribonuclease and its interactions with other cellular components will also be investigated.
