Abstract

The plant endomembrane system is responsible for the biogenesis of some of the most biologically interesting and commercially important structures in plant cells. In the next 5 years, reverse genetic approaches will make an important contribution to the analysis of membrane traffic in plants. One important target of reverse genetics will be the Rab GTPase family. Explaining the unique complement of Rab GTPases in higher plants will require knowledge of expression patterns and of redundancy relationships. We aim to monitor and collate all the international, national, and in-house micro-array information relating to the Rab GTPase family and to establish a database of available insertions in Rab GTPase genes. In collaboration with other members of the laboratory, we will investigate the functions of selected subclasses of the Arabidopsis Rab GTPase family.
