Abstract
EMS-mutagenised Arabidopsis plants transgenic for mitochondrion-targeted GFP will be screened for mutations in mitochondrial shape, size and number. Map based positional cloning will be used to identify a small sub-genomic region responsible for the most significant mutant phenotype. Complementation of the mutant phenotype will enable the identification of the BAC or sub-BAC fragment containing the wild-type gene. This will be the first study into the genetic control of mitochondrial form and number in higher plant cells.
