Abstract

The overall aim of the proposed work is to identify and analyse the molecular components involved in a unique developmental cell migration in plants; the intracellular migration of the generative cell into the vegetative cell following pollen mitosis I. The specific objectives are: (1) the genetic and cytological characterisation of three limpet pollen (lip1,2,3) mutants which act gametophytically during early pollen development to prevent generative cell migration, (2) the molecular cloning of the T-DNA/transposon tagged gene(s) responsible for the lip1 and lip2 mutations, (3) the analysis of the expression and role of the lip1 and lip2 gene products in generative cell migration.
