Abstract

We have established and will maintain a set of extreme lines of mice produced by divergent selection from the same base population for over 60 generations for growth, fatness and metabolic rate. Inbred lines have been developed from the selection lines. In addition, growth selected lines from other labs world-wide have been brought in. They provide a unique and powerful resource for analysis of these quantitative traits, mapping QTL and identifying the relevant genes. For fine mapping of QTL, congenic lines will be developed by backcrossing and candidate genes will be tested using knock-outs. The resource will be used in collaborative studies with other labs for genetic analysis of growth, obesity, metabolic rate, and related traits.
