Abstract

Transdifferentiation of visceral into parietal endoderm will be studied to find out if it depends on a change in the orientation of cytokinesis in visceral cells from parallel to orthogonal to their axis of polarity. The time-course of the process will be examined at both the cellular and molecular level and the orientation of mitoses at different stages determined by visceral- and parietal- specific genes by in situ hybridisation. Whether visceral cells can be made to transdifferentiate by experimentally altering the orientation of cytokinesis and whether they are able to form other types of cells will also be investigated.
