Abstract
The PHAN gene is needed to specify lateral organs in Antirrhinum, encodes a transcription factor and is expressed only in organ initials. We will isolate and characterise known or novel genes that a) regulate PHAN expression and therefore determine plant architecture, b) act in parallel with PHAN to specify organ identity and c) are targets of PHAN acting in organ growth, signalling and cell-type specification, using complementary forward and reverse genetical approaches.
