Abstract

We are creating a bovine whole genome radiation hybrid mapping panel to build a high resolution bovine ESTS map which will facilitate detailed comparative mapping. The panel is being constructed by standard means which have already been used successfully to build several WGRH panels by the principal applicant and the panel will be characterised using markers from the bovine genome which are currently in use in the laboratory of the co- applicant. European Commission funding has been secured to initiate the construction of the Bovine radiation hybrid map. The current application is to fill a hole in the present funding, that is the amplification of the cell lines and preparation of sufficient DNA so that the WGRHP can be fully exploited through international collaboration. Additional funding for PCR primers for an extended set of markers to characterise the panel is also requested.
