Abstract

Pseudomonas are of prime importance in biotechnology, agriculture, medicine and the natural environment and yet, with the exception of P. aeruginosa, our understanding of Pseudomonas genomics is poor. The saprophytic, plant-growth promoting bacterium, P. fluorescens (SBW25), is the focus of research in the PI's labs. Given its significance, we propose to construct an ordered genome library and generate a high- resolution map of the SBW25 chromosome. We also propose to map selected sets of genes, especially plant-induced genes, and use data from the P. aeruginosa genome sequencing project to undertake comparative analyses. The map, plus ordered library, will provide us with fast access to any gene of interest, act as a conduit to the P. aeruginosa genome programme and facilitate a future SBW25 sequencing project.
