Abstract

FNR protein is a transcriptional factor essential for E. coli to adapt to anaerobic growth conditions. FNR activates transcription at some promoters and represses transcription at others. Our objective is to identify the surface-exposed patches of FNR that are essential for gene activation and repression and to investigate how they interact with RNA polymerase to modulate transcription. Additionally, we propose to locate surface-exposed regions of FNR that interact with two other factors, NarL and NarP.
