Abstract
The aim of this proposed study is to identify novel genes required for growth cone guidance within the central nervous system (CNS) of Drosophila. We intend to screen a large collection of mutants which affect the development of the Drosophila CNS for those which affect pathway choices by identified growth cones. These will be characterised phenotypically and at the molecular level. Once the novel gene products have been identified, misexpression experiments will be used to assay their ability to switch the pathway selections taken by axons within the nervous system.
