Abstract

Using chemostats and a novel biofilm model test hypotheses: (1) that adherent growth per se broadly influences cell physiology especially key surface structures and (2) that dormancy properties occur suddenly at specific low growth rates and are associated with DNA supercoiling and (3) that fimbriation is influenced by cell attachment to surfaces and the cell cycle.
