Abstract

(i) To characterise the ADP/ATP translocase gene (and products) of D. melanogaster and its sibling species; (ii) To directly test the hypothesis that this gene is Hmr/In(1)AB, a gene previously recognised as being involved in the rescue of otherwise inviable species hybrids; (iii) To construct interspecific inviability within one species.
