Abstract

The project will examine the origins of transcription factors implicated in control of patterning the forebrain during vertebrate embryonic development. Homologues of Otx, Emx and other forebrain-expressed genes will be cloned from amphioxus; genomic organisation, linkage, gene number, and embryonic expression patterns will be determined to elucidate the patterns of gene duplication, divergence, genomic re-arrangement, and functional recruitment during developmental evolution.
