1. To reconstruct the smt metallo-regulatory system in a heterologous host and to establish whether the repressor SmtB and a novel zinc inhibited DNA-protein complex MAC1 are synonymous. 2. To identify the functional domains of SmtB. 3. To isolate genes encoding other putative-regulatory factors MAC2 and MAC3.
