Abstract
We propose in this project to use a 'substitution library' of recombinant backcross lines (RBL), together with a set of doubled haploid (DH) lines derived from the same parental inbreds to precision map quantitative trait loci for a range of characters in Brassica oleracea. The necessary linkage map data will be obtained using a combination of RFLP, isozyme RAPD, AFLP and microsatellite markers. Crosses between the lines will be used to assess the relative importance of additive, dominance and epistatic effects at the level of individual QTL. Finally replicate trials across sites and season will be used to investigate genotype x environment effects.
