Abstract

The aim is to characterise phenotypically and genetically a novel embryonic patterning mutant of Arabidopsis defective in the organisation of the shoot and root; and to clone the mutant gene and its wild-type allele. Available genetic data indicate that the mutation is caused by, or closely linked to, a single T-DNA insertion. The work is expected to provide valuable new information on the genetic regulation of a fundamental aspect of plant development biology and the gene product may represent an excellent target in the development of novel herbicides.
