Abstract

The objectives of the project are to determine: i) sites of expression of VEGF and its receptors flt and flk in the uterus of the mouse and pig during pregnancy; ii) whether an alteration of VEGF production is involved in failure of pregnancy in mice stocks with high resorption rates; iii) how and by what, is VEGF synthesis regulated in the uterus; iv) the responses of placental cells bearing VEGF receptors to stimulation with recombinant VEGF; and v) what is the outcome of pregnancy if the action of VEGF is nullified by passive immunisation.
