Abstract

Three University partners in collaboration with Roslin Institute will seek genes through expression levels indicate responses in Atlantic salmon to pathogen challenge, to dietary lipid and protein changes, or that indicate the physiological shift from freshwater to marine adaptation. Appropriate samples will be screened on a primary cDNA microarray. Candidates from this round of screening will be used to develop a secondary microarray of oligonucleotides that will be used to reprobe the original samples. In a final phase, those second round candidates that can be proven by established technologies will form the basis of a prototype salmon oligonucleotide chip for monitoring performance in terms of health and productivity.
