Abstract

Techniques for the in vitro production and monitoring of mammalian embryos have remained largely unchanged for many years. In the proposed project, three academic and one commercial partner will bring together the approaches of image analysis and metabolic profiling to establish reliable quality measures for porcine and human embryo production in in vitro. These monitoring techniques will be combined with micro-chamber technology to make embryo production and monitoring more tractable. These novel techniques and quality measures will be validated by in vivo trials in pigs. The research will have wide application in the improvement of embryo-based biotechnologies in domestic animals and man. (Joint with grant 18522).
