Abstract
This project aims to develop and demonstrate the effectiveness of control procedures to increase the consistency and optimise the productivity of a range of animal cell lines. We will investigate the capabilities when fundamental knowledge about the physiology of the culture can be ascertained, and contrast this with the cases where only a limited process understanding exists. In addition to considerations of procedure performance, the ease of implementation will be one of the key objectives. This is essential for technology transfer. The success of the project will be judged by a comprehensive industrial demonstration of the capability of the methods and, in the longer term, a take up of the approaches by the industrial collaborators. (Joint with grant 6/E15012).
