Abstract

This project aims to investigate the properties of a novel form of biocatalyst which we have termed protein-coated microcrystals (PCMCs). These have significant potential for the development of automated screening and combinatorial biocatalysis. The project will focus on exploring the key parameters that control PCMC activity, stability and the nature of the adsorbed protein layer for biocatalysis in non-aqueous media. A combination of catalytic activity, ESI-MS and scanning microscopy will probe the nature of the protein- crystal interface. The project will impact on a wide range of applications which utilise proteins bound at interfaces.
