Abstract
We propose to develop an optical biochip technology for the detection of inhibitors of antibiotic pumps, with application for screening for novel antibiotics. This will involve the development of a high-density microanalytical array for performing optical assays, based upon either fluorescence or bioluminescence. The devices will provide a range of new, but generic technologies, for the rapid, high throughput, detection of target ligands from chemical libraries. The technology will have general applicability in screening for compounds of pharmacological interest.
