Abstract

This proposal aims to develop a rapid protocol for influencing biosynthetic fluxes using fed batch culture without knowledge of the biosynthetic pathway or the necessity for genetic manipulation. Quantification of the production rates of intermediary metabolites followed by statistical analysis of their relationship with bioproduct formation rate will be used to design culture feeds using: a natural product with a known biosynthetic pathway (clavulanic acid) and a natural product where in the biosynthetic pathway is less well characterised (vancomycin).
