Abstract
Protein fouling on ceramic membranes is the main limitation for their application in bioseparation. We propose to investigate the fouling process under crossflow operation using small angle neutron scattering in combination with neutron reflection. The advantage of both techniques is that for a given physical system the contrasts can be varied by using labelling so that the foulant layer can be highlighted and thus the structure can be determined with reliability. The effect of pH, ionic strength, flow condition on the fouling of different membranes will be examined.
