Abstract

The role of the BBSRC Centre for Biochemical Engineering is to:- 1) Solve outstanding problems of fundamental importance to UK and European bioprocess industries, through strategic research using the world-class facilities and expertise of the Centre, and the synergy between Centre research teams; 2) Use the Rolling Grant to underpin research programmes that can only be undertaken in a Centre equipped to international standards, particularly with respect to pilot-scale facilities; 3) Develop strong multidisciplinary links between the School of Chemical Engineering and other Schools or Departments concerned with Biotechnology within the University of Birmingham; 4) Collaborate with UK and European bioprocess companies, and to achieve efficient technology transfer to industry; 5) Collaborate with other research, both in the UK and internationally; 6) Educate and train biochemical engineers at all levels from undergraduate to post- experience; and to 7) Use BBSRC and other resources efficiently through effective management.
