Abstract

There is strategic need in the bioprocessing (laboratory and pilot plant development, and production) for data gathered by computer systems to be interrogated and analysed to extract implicit information, possibly previously unknown, but important to future operation. Timely interpretation would enable improvements to be made to the quality and safety of the process and product, aid optimisation of new process developments, reduce development time and reduce the number of non-conforming batches. Statistical analysis of the data can reveal important underlying information about processes behaviour. Of particular interest are situations that involve the extraction of key representational structures captured in monitored data from manipulation of non-linear and time dependent complex microbial systems.
