Abstract
(i) to develop FT-IR microspectroscopy as a novel, rapid and non-destructive analytical tool for systems of biotechnological interest, in both solid and liquid cultures; (ii) to improve existing quantitative FT-IR analyses by exploiting digital filtering methods and novel chemometric approaches for optimal wavelength selection; (iii) to devise an integrated instrument capable of producing a metabolic map of a sample; (iv) to exploit the system in the selection of high-yielding strains producing industrially relevant compounds.
