Abstract

Our knowledge and understanding of the luxS-based quorum sensing system in Salmonella is minimal. Preliminary data obtained from this laboratory has identified phenotypes for Salmonella luxS mutants and these will be investigated further. Genes regulated by luxS in Salmonella will be identified using genome-wide lacZ transcriptional fusions and DNA microarrays. Finally, the role of luxS in virulence and immunity in vivo will be determined.
