Abstract
The influence of nitrogen fertiliser on gene expression in the wheat endosperm will be determined using the wheat endosperm microarrays produced as part of an IGF-funded project on endosperm development and two field experiments at Rothamsted; the classical Broadbalk winter wheat experiment and cultivar x nitrogen interaction trial. The transcriptome of wheat endosperm at two stages of grain development and grown with different nitrogen fertiliser regimes will be compared to identify changes in gene expression in response to N supply conditions. This information will be useful for the development of tools for optimising N use efficiency by manipulating either genotypic or environmental components of the cultivar x nitrogen interaction. (Joint with grant 7/D16781).
