Abstract
STRAFI-NMR techniques will be performed on soils using the unique instrumentation developed at QMW. Pore size distributions determined by both NMR and PoreCor analyses of water retention curves (WRCs) will be used to probe pore connectivity. 1D STRAFI NMR of drained samples will be used to determine both the air-breakthrough matric potential and the nature of residual water in order to improve interpretation of WRCs. The relationship between particle and pore size distributions will be determined. The status of aromatic pollutants in soil will be determined. The kinetics of infiltration of water and aromatic pollutants into dry souls, and of deuterated water into soil contaminated by aromatic pollutants, will be measured.
