Abstract
The project will undertake the development of processes-based models of three, key, UK weed species and winter wheat in monoculture. These models will be integrated into a unified simulation model of the growth of weed and crop in a mixture, and of the outcome, in terms of crop yield, of the presence of weeds. This simulation will include descriptions of the processes involved in the interference of weed and crop in the capture of three key resources (light, water and nitrogen). The simulation model will be evaluated and re-developed using a large existing data-set of the growth of winter wheat and these three weed species. A risk-analysis framework for the outcome of weed and crop competition, in terms of crop yield and crop yield-loss will be developed using both historical data, and also a weather generator LARS-WG.
