Abstract
Plant Scale Husbandry (PSH) aims to improve the targeting of crop protection methods by sensing crop and weed position very accurately (e.g. to 10 mm) using a TV camera mounted on a vehicle coupled with real-time machine vision. In preliminary work, Silsoe Research Institute has developed a testbed vehicle and sensing systems, and used this to demonstrate that PSH might be feasible. The proposed work will investigate three new areas, i.e. robust image segmentation, extending the operational range to a practically useful level, and developing algorithms that can run on the common computing platforms of the future.
