Abstract

Stem canker and light leaf spot on winter oilseed rape cause severe yield losses in the UK and can be controlled by efficient use of fungicides. This project will develop models of disease progress and relate them to yield losses. A multi-disciplinary approach will be taken, with modelling work benefiting directly from parallel biological research on factors influencing the epidemic cycles. The models will be used to evaluate spray treatments, enabling effective disease control and decreasing wasteful use of sprays. Models for disease progress and yield loss will be combined to enable comparative cost-benefit analyses of treatments, suitable for eventual exploitation in a decision support system.
