Abstract
This project will determine responses of normal human epithelial cells to dietary fatty acids (FA) at the mRNA level. Using our well-characterised in vitro system of serum-free uro- epithelial cell culture, we will test the effects of 18-carbon FA of varying saturation and isomerism, presented as physiological (albumin) complexes. Transcripts will be analysed by a mRNA differential display PCR and bands of interest will be cloned and sequenced. This should provide insights into normal cellular responses to FA.
