Abstract
Developments in technology have presented us with new opportunities to manipulate the Lolium-Festuca complex gene pool and to target the transfer of specific genes between species. By the use of fluorescent in situ hybridisation, microdissection and DNA marker technologies we will 1) introgress agronomically important genes from Festuca into Lolium 2) develop mapping procedures that will integrate physical and genetic markers 3) isolate markers tightly linked to genes of interest and 4) determine the extent of collinearity that exists between Lolium/Festuca and other grass species.
