Abstract

A combination of field observations, statistical analysis and demographic modelling will be used to develop an understanding of whether and how changes in agricultural land use and practice have caused the known decline of many farmland bird species. The field work will focus on four seed-eating passerines. Analysis of BTO data (funded by MAFF) will allow us to generalise to the guild of seed-eaters as a whole. The outputs will include predictive models of the consequences of future land use change.
