Abstract

Mutations have identified seven genes essential for freezing tolerance in Arabidopsis. We will discover, by genetic mapping, if and how they correspond to genes that are cold-induced. For one gene of particular interest, map information will be refined to enable the gene to be cloned in subsequent work. Concomitantly, similar mutations from a collaborator will be tested for allelism with ours, extending our knowledge of the set of essential genes. Our collaborator will perform physiological analysis on all mutants to illuminate the roles of the corresponding genes.
