Abstract

The role of cell mediated immunity, with special reference to cytotoxic T-cells (CTLs), in protection conferred by live attenuated salmonella vaccines will be studied in the mouse typhoid model with views to improved vaccine development. CTLs induced by immunisation with Aro Salmonella typhimurium and S. enteritidis vaccines will be studied using different salmonella-infected cells as targets to investigate their correlation with protective immunity and their contribution to the serotype-specific protection conferred by vaccination. At a later stage, we will attempt to define the identity of the Salmonella antigens recognised by CTLs.
