Abstract
Insect specific viruses, such as baculoviruses and entomopoxviruses (EPVs), have potential as novel biological control agents. The EPVs are of particular interest as they have been isolated from all four insect orders that contain agriculturally important pests, including orthopteran and coleopteran species, from which baculoviruses have not been isolated. However, there is relatively little known about the EPVs, and therefore, before they can be assessed as bio-control agents, a thorough understanding of their biology and replication is required. This proposal aims to address this deficiency by investigating the replication of an EPV at the cell and molecular level in virus-infected insect cell cultures.
