Abstract

The overall objective will be to investigate questions relating to the interactions between wildlife and land use in the agricultural environment. These interactions will be considered from both sides: on the one hand the programme will tackle the question of how the structure and land use patterns of the agricultural environment affect wildlife, on the other hand it will investigate the effects of native fauna and flora on agriculture in relation to alternative forms of land use. The ultimate use of the fundamental research will be to produce predictive models of the consequences of changes in patterns of land use. The main methodological approach will be to analyse fundamental behavioural-ecological processes with a combination of field work, laboratory experimentation and mathematical modelling.
