Abstract
The aim is to understand how genes control the development and evolution of organ size. The number and types of genes controlling differences in flower and leaf sizes between closely related Antirrhinum species will be determined by a combination of morphometric, quantitative trait and transposon-mutagenesis studies. Cellular and developmental analysis of species, recombinant inbred and near-isogenic lines will be used to determine the stage at which genes influence size and whether they act on cell expansion and/or proliferation. The project will provide a platform for exploiting the enormous range of biological variation between Antirrhinum species. (Joint with grant 208/COD16824).
